Friend, let’s make some crafty decor for Valentine’s Day! For this project, I wanted to make Valentine’s Day art for my mantel that didn’t look too out of place with the rest of my decor.
This post contains some affiliate links so you can easily find the products I use and recommend. Discover all my favorite brands and tools for doing DIY makeovers here.
I headed over to Hobby Lobby and picked up a few supplies:
- Burlap covered canvas
- Rosette ribbon trim, about 2 yards
- Decorative upholstery tacks
- Mod Podge
- Scissors
- Hammer
I laid out the ribbon and cut strips of it to form the shape of a heart on the canvas.
Here it is just sitting in place below. Don’t glue it down until you’re happy with the placement and spacing.
Then I lifted one strip at a time and applied a layer of Mod Podge until all the pieces were glued on. A hot glue gun would probably work here too. Let the glue dry sufficiently.
Finally I measured and then nailed tacks evenly around the edge of the canvas – seven on each side.
It turned out beautifully and it blends perfectly with my mantel decor.
Update: Later, before we moved into the new house we built, I gave this fireplace a makeover. Learn how to paint a stone fireplace here, and see the transitional fireplace in our new house here.

Roses always remind me of love, and this is such a sweet (and inexpensive) way to add more Valentine’s decor to your home.
I’m very happy with how this turned out, and I just might leave this heart art on my mantel past February 14th.
Thanks so much for stopping by today! – Jen
