For this project, I wanted to make some Valentine’s Day art for my mantel that didn’t look too out of place with the rest of my decor.  So I headed over to Hobby Lobby and picked up a few supplies:

  • Burlap covered canvas – $6.99 (on sale for 30% off) = $4.89
  • Rosette ribbon trim – $4.99/yd x 2 yards (40% off coupon from Hobby Lobby’s mobile app) = $5.99
  • Decorative Tacks – $1.99
  • Mod Podge (already had)
  • Scissors
  • Hammer

Total Cost: $12.87

Supplies: Rose Heart Art {Valentine's Day Tour} I girlinthegarage.net

I laid out the ribbon and cut strips of it to form the shape of a heart.

Then I lifted one strip at a time and applied a layer of Mod Podge until all the pieces were glued on.

Finally I nailed tacks around the edge of the canvas – seven on each side.

It turned out beautifully and it blends perfectly with my mantel decor!

Roses always remind me of love.  <3

Not bad for less than $13!

And I could probably leave this art on my mantel for longer than just February.

How are you planning to decorate for Valentine’s Day?

Thanks Nancy! You’re right- the rosettes look complicated but since it’s just a ribbon it was super easy!

Thanks so much Christy! I wish I knew how to make rosettes… but I have a feeling that would’ve taken much longer! 😉

I love this! It looks perfect on your mantel and is such an elegant decoration. I’ve never seen a burlap canvas and will have to look for them in my area. They are great for crafting.

This is so stinkin’ cute, Jen! I love the texture of the rosettes on the burlap. And the nailhead trim? Brilliant touch.

Happy Valentine’s Day, my friend. Such fun ‘touring’ with you this month. :)
