Friends, I don’t usually get super excited about pillows, but I am today! I made my own DIY pillow cover and I’m pretty proud of it – especially since I used two gorgeous fabrics from OnlineFabricStore.
You may remember that I won one of their pillows at the Haven Conference. I chose this double-sided beauty (below) and that’s where I got the idea for this pillow. A double-sided pillow cover is so versatile – just turn it over and you can have a completely different look.
For this project I used:
- 16x16in. Pillow Form
- French Grain Sack Reproduction
- Richloom Birdwatcher Meadow Fabric
- Invisible Zipper
- Sewing Machine
- Thread
- Pins
First, iron the fabric. Then lay the pattern how you want it to show on the pillow and cut, leaving an extra 1-2 inches all around.
When you have your two squares of fabric, face the “good” sides toward each other and slide the pillow form between. Use pins to secure the fabric together and mark where to sew – do this on the three sides but not the bottom. Remove the pillow and sew the three sides that you pinned.
Follow the directions on the package for sewing the invisible zipper onto the bottom, then insert the pillow into the case.
When you’re finished you’ll have a gorgeous new double-sided pillow!
I fell in love with this Richloom Birdwatcher fabric right away. The fabric is so thick and well-made, and the colors are so vibrant!
But this French Grain Sack Reproduction also stole my heart!
I’m thrilled that I can display either side of the pillow and have a different look depending on my mood.
In addition to carrying fabric and supplies to make your own pillows, OFS now carries ready-made decorative throw pillows also – see them HERE.
Now it’s time for you to enter to win some fabulous fabric from OnlineFabricStore!

How clever! I didn’t know there was such a thing as an invisible zipper. Now I want one. And I LOVE that bird fabric and how gorgeous it looks with your blue pillow.
And I love that you can flip it over anytime you want. Great project!

I love the idea of a double sided pillow. If you are going to the trouble to sew, you may as well get two looks out of the project. I am embarrassed to admit that I’ve never tackled a zipper. I’m determined to learn how to do it for my next pillow project!

We recently redid our living room, so I have almost nothing in it. My green plaid couch is now solid green, thanks to a slip cover, so the 16″ x 16″ Savona Spring Blossoms Decorative Pillows would be great on it.

Thank you Christy! It had been at least 10 years since I sewed a zipper – I prayed this one would turn out, and thankfully it did! 🙂
