Where we live, we have all 4 seasons independently. Which means our temperatures vary from below zero in winter all the way to 100 in summer, and in spring and fall you never know if it’s going to be 30 or 80 that day. If you also live in or near the Midwest then you definitely know what I mean. We have a saying here- “If you don’t like the weather, just wait 5 minutes!” Since the temperature is constantly changing, my family has a LOT of jackets and coats. The coat closet is full and I even have over-the-door hook racks on the boys’ bedroom doors. But even though they’re functional, they aren’t usually very special to look at. So I wanted someplace else- pretty or funky or boyish or classic depending on the room- to hang jackets, scarves and hats, or my purse. After having recently completed my armoire project where I had bought some drawer pulls at Anthropologie, I discovered I had a little obsession with drawer knobs… and luckily I found a craft store with a HUGE selection of awesome knobs at GREAT prices! Ahhh…. heaven.
So I bought some wooden plaques, a plethora of drawer knobs/hooks, craft paint, scrapbook paper, and stencils. Then I just experimented with what looked best together and got to work. I had to sand the boards first and then either cut the scrapbook paper to size or give a few coats of paint because the wood was quite absorbent. Then I measured for the knobs and had some help with drilling the holes for the screws.
I finished them by applying a protective coat of Mod Podge (especially important when I used scrapbook paper) and nailing a sawtooth picture hook to the back and voila! – a much more aesthetically pleasing place to hang a jacket/scarf/purse/hat/anything else that needs hung. Here are some that I’ve completed so far:

I do plan to offer some of my products for sale on etsy or through private messaging so let me know if you‘re interested or have any special requests.
