Nailheads, aka upholstery tacks, have become more and more popular as an inexpensive way to update furniture and home decor – I’ve used them on several makeovers myself.

Although it doesn’t cost much money, it does take a little practice (and sometimes a lot of patience) to get the look you’re going after.  Below are 13 ways to inspire you to think of using nailheads and several also have advice (#1 and #5 are two of my projects where I share my mistakes and tips I’ve learned so far).

I love all of these pieces. My #1 favorite though is the dresser you did. Did you have any problems with the nails bending? I just did a piece and my nails kept bending? I probably wasted 8 or 9 nails in the process. Just wanted to see if this is just me doing something wrong or if you might have a secret trick to this that you might want to share;) thank you so much!

Hi. I have an old stereo cabinet that holds old records from early 60’s. I’m not sure if I should paint it or not. It looks worn but I’m afraid to paint it. Any thoughts? Thank you

Hi Ana, I have seen many old stereo cabinets painted before – I’m sure you can find lots of inspiration on Pinterest or Google. Is it already painted? If so, you may need to do a lead test to make sure the paint isn’t dangerous. Otherwise it should be fine to paint – good luck! 🙂
