Hi friends! Today I’m sharing this festive red, white, and blue DIY bandana wreath that was SO simple to make. You’ll love how easy it is to make cute home decor on a budget!
It’s been a little while since I did a craft project and I was reminded how much faster they are than painting a big piece of furniture! This one took me about 30 minutes, but that’s only because I kept stopping to take pictures.
Supplies needed for the DIY bandana wreath
- Wreath form (whatever size you’d like)
- Red, white, and blue bandanas (I used one of each)
- Scissors
- Thin string for hanging
How to make an easy bandana wreath
First I cut the bandanas into approximately 3-inch strips. I didn’t measure, I just eyeballed it.
Also, don’t worry if your lines aren’t perfectly straight.
I folded the strip into a U under the wreath and pinched the two ends together…
And pulled them down over the wreath and through the loop to make a knot.
Pull it tight and fluff the ends as needed.
Repeat until your wreath is full and festive!
Finally, loop some thin string around it and hang your beautiful new wreath.
I love red, white, and blue together – and the bandanas give this wreath such a classic American look.
This bandana wreath would also look great with pastel colors for spring or bright colors for summer – any season or holiday could work. It’s also a cute gift idea! 🙂

p.s. I dare you to try typing “bandana” over and over – see how many times you type “banana” instead. LOL

I’m having a hard time getting the bandanas to hold tight. Any suggestions?
Jen says
Hi Teresa, are the strips about the same width as mine? I’ve never had a problem with the knots loosening up. Make sure to pull them tight and keep them close together. If you still have problems you could try a dab of fabric glue or a small stitch to keep them tight. Hope that helps.

I was on a mission today to make this! Found a straw wreath at Michael’s and had to search all over Walmart (of all places) for bandanas. I found true red & blue at Academy Sporting Goods. My straw wreath is too large so it’s back to Michael’s tomorrow! I am determined!

I’m so happy you’re going to make this wreath! I hope you have better luck finding the supplies. I know you can buy the foam wreaths at Joann’s or Hobby Lobby – and I bought the bandanas at Hobby Lobby for $.99 each. (They have lots of color choices!) Please let me know how it turns out! 🙂
