Annie Sloan Book Review and Giveaway

Sponsored-Post-Disclosure-BWG

Hello my friends!  I hope you had a wonderful weekend and a lovely Monday.  We celebrated our younger son’s 5th birthday, so the last few days have been busy and lots of fun!

After nonstop activities, I love to relax and get some “me time” – usually at night when the boys are in bed.  Often that involves curling up on the couch with my fuzzy blue blanket and a good book or magazine.  Lately I have been obsessed with Annie Sloan’s Room Recipes for Style and Color.

Annie Sloan's Room Recipes for Style and Color - giveaway April 14-20, 2015 at girlinthegarage.net (open to US and Canada) #sponsored

With approximately 200 pages of home decor ideas and style advice, this book is so inspiring and filled with gorgeous photos!  In it, Annie Sloan and her son Felix discuss nine different decorating styles (although it’s alright to be a combination of 2 or 3) and what kind of pieces and colors work well in each style.

The photo above is an example of mixed styles:  warehouse, French elegance, and modern retro.  These pieces work well together in this space and create an eclectic design feel.

According to the book, the intricate details and gilding all over the room below are part of traditional Swedish design.  I love this space because it reminds me so much of my favorite place to visit: The Palace of Versailles.  <3

Annie and Felix refer to this next style as vintage floral.  The beautiful floral dresser and suitcases are balanced by the industrial-style card catalog and ornate mirror.  The building facade used as wall decor is a fantastic conversation piece!

The room below is decorated around Florence, one of Annie Sloan’s vibrant Chalk Paint® colors.  The use of colors and vintage bohemian style are so cheerful in this space.

My own bedroom has a bohemian feel to it, so the room below really resonates with me.  The mix of patterns and colors makes me happy!

Lastly, this warehouse apartment in Amsterdam is gorgeous because of the textures and the contrast between rough and refined.  The chandelier, the brick wall, the large windows – oh my!

Which style above do you love – or are you a mix?

The book explains these and other styles in greater detail and also with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint® color suggestions to help achieve the look you’re seeking.

I have bought Annie Sloan chalk paint before, but have never been brave enough to transform a piece of furniture. The book and all its recipes would probably inspire me to take the plunge!
